The Amazing Maurice
Maurice, a streetwise tomcat, hatches the perfect money-making scam inspired by the Grimm Brothers' Pied Piper of Hamelin fairytale. Teaming up with Keith, a young pipe player, and a horde of educated, literate rats—who can no longer be seen as mere "lunch"—they stage fake rat invasions from town to town, capitalizing on folklore fears. The con runs flawlessly until they reach the stricken town of Bad Blintz, where their scheme unravels spectacularly. Someone there plays a darker, shadowier tune from the cellars, unleashing something very, very bad. The game turns deadly serious—a true rat-eat-rat world where the clever rodents confront a chilling new reality: EVIL.
Framed through the eyes of the Mayor’s daughter, Melissa, a avid reader of children’s literature, she uncovers the deception under her nose and dives into the fray. This lively family entertainment blends con artistry, peril, and redemption in a unique animated adventure.
Based on Sir Terry Pratchett’s beloved “Discworld” novel from the series with over 90 million books sold worldwide, the screenplay comes from Oscar-nominated Terry Rossio (Shrek, Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean). Character designs are by Carter Goodrich (Ratatouille, Despicable Me), with voices led by Emilia Clarke, Hugh Laurie, David Thewlis, Himesh Patel, and Gemma Arterton. Directed by Toby Genkel (Ooops! Noah is Gone…), it’s an international co-production by Ulysses Filmproduktion and Cantilever Media.
